This is a summary of the story "How the Camel Got Its Hump" by Rudyard Kipling. In this tale, the camel is a lazy creature who refuses to work and complains constantly. When the Djinn (a supernatural being) confronts the camel about its behavior, the camel argues that it has a right to be lazy. The Djinn becomes angry and punishes the camel by giving it a hump, which serves as a place to store food and water for the camel's long journeys through the desert. The story teaches a lesson about the importance of hard work and being willing to contribute to the needs of one's community.
The Djinn of All Deserts was making all the animals of the Middle East get to work. The horse, the dog, and the ox all promptly began their tasks when the Djinn commanded them. However, the camel flatly refused to work, arguing that it had a right to be lazy. The camel grumbled and complained, saying, "Why should I work? I don't want to work. I want to go and walk in the desolate desert and find my own food!" The Djinn became very angry at the camel's stubborn refusal to help.
One day, the camel was lying under a palm tree, still refusing to work. The Djinn approached the camel and asked sternly, "Why aren't you working?" The camel replied, "I won't. I like to be lazy. I don't want to work." The Djinn warned the camel, "If you don't start working, I'll punish you." But the camel stubbornly said, "I don't care. I'm not going to work."
Furious, the Djinn reached down and grabbed the camel by its long neck. He then shaped a large, humped lump on the camel's back. "From now on," the Djinn declared, "you will have this hump on your back to remind you to work. The hump will be a place for you to store food and water for your long journeys through the desert, since you are too lazy to look for nourishment yourself." The camel tried to argue, but the Djinn sternly said, "No more complaints. Now get to work!"
Grumbling, the camel got up and began its duties, realizing it had no choice. The hump, which the Djinn had given it, proved to be very useful, as the camel could store supplies in it for its long treks across the hot desert. And that is how the camel got its famous hump - as a punishment for its stubborn laziness and unwillingness to work.
